Devan Benton’s Character Poem

Leap of Faith

Here I am upon the highest branch

Looking down upon the world

Dare I take life’s final plunge?

To join the flowers below, unfurled

Or remain with those clinging tightly to their home

Perhaps I’ll take the journey unknown

Yet as I sit here slowly dying

My whole heart and mind is made

I will float down unto the earth and pretend that I am flying

I would love to say that I’m not scared, but then I would be lying

So here I come my fellow friends for I am letting go

To lay upon that sweet soft ground, that will soon be snow

Farewell my home, it is time for my final feat

Come sweet cold wind, transport me to my earthly retreat

To eternally lay upon the ashen ground

The barren earth will be my throne.
